We Don't Need This Kind of Excitement

A week ago today, there was a fierce little storm, completely unexpected, that visited our little town just before dawn Monday morning. It was not until the end of the day that Brady pointed out the trees that were damaged by that storm. These trees were about a quarter mile behind our house and just two of the several trees that suffered fractured limbs and trunks.

Inside our home, there was another casualty of the storm. In the midst of darkness, much disorientation and Mommy's mind foggy from being rudely awakened by the alarms of Joseph's equipment due to a power outtage, another limb was fractured. This time, it was my little boy's distal (R) femur when I accidentally bumped him against his bed rail as I was moving him from one bed to the other. Brady was outside at that time, setting up the little generator amidst the howling winds.

We thought that Super Pow deserved a trip to Target for a couple of toys after enduring pain and much discomfort at night, and for being such a tough little man.

We will see a pediatric orthopedic doctor on May 31st as planned for his hips, and now also for his (R) femur fracture. I curse you SMA for causing such pain to my son, even though the fracture was made possible by my poor eyesight and mental confusion. The little irony about that Monday was that we already had a back-up generator being shipped to us, the kind that would automatically turn on as soon as the electric power goes out. Maybe next time, we will be better prepared and more coordinated with our response to a black-out.
