A Dark Day: Then :( and Now :)

It was this time of the year, five years ago, when it was confirmed that Jojo had SMA. After delaying it for months, we finally decided to get the blood drawn on the week of Thanksgiving. We were told that we would probably get the result in two weeks. Jojo's doctor called us the day after Thanksgiving with the result, much sooner than we thought. I don't quite remember that weekend, except that Brady was more upset than I was and how he didn't want to talk much that day, even to his friends who came to the house after hearing the news. We had already planned to go shopping in Baton Rouge and see Santa Claus in the big mall the following Monday. And so we did.

Now, it's sort of our tradition to go to the Mall of Louisiana every Monday after Thanksgiving. I think we've only missed one year, in 2005, when Jojo had been in and out of PICU practically every month. This year, we went on a Tuesday. It was a rainy, dark and dreary day, but Jojo did everything he wanted to do!

2004: Jojo waiting in line to see Santa for the first time. Someone commented that Jojo must be tired (because he was in the stroller instead of walking around.) If she only knew. 2009: Jojo and Daddy just mailed the letter to Santa.

2009: Jojo finally got to ride the carousel again!

Jojo went to "build a bear" again but this time it's a puppy, a girl puppy! He said he's not getting a girl toy; he's getting a sister for his panda bear.
